Patient Safety Resources - Physical Restraint

Restraint Reduction Project Overview

The aim of the Restraint Reduction Project is to improve the safety of nursing home residents through the reduction and elimination of physical restraints. Delmarva will be working with nursing homes on this project as part of the National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI) under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service’s (CMS) 9th Scope of Work (SOW).  Partners in restraint reduction believe that a meaningful reduction requires the nursing home team (administrator, director of nursing, assistant director of nursing, nurses, dietary, therapists, activities, housekeeping, front line staff) to work together to intensify its commitment to making restraint reduction and elimination a priority.

Project Description

The Restraint Reduction/Elimination Community of Practice (CoP)
The community of practice is designed to educate providers and encourage the use of evidence-based methodology in restraint reduction. Each nursing home participating in the CoP will have access to all Delmarva resources including onsite visits, consultations, intervention strategies and support for data analysis.
