Pressure Ulcer Reduction Project Overview
The Pressure Ulcer Reduction Project is committed to improving the safety of patients/residents in hospitals and nursing homes through the reduction of pressure ulcers. Delmarva will be working with hospitals and nursing homes on this project as part of the National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI) under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service’s (CMS) 9th Scope of Work (SOW). The ultimate goal of the project is to reduce the rate of pressure ulcers by achieving an eight percent relative improvement by the year 2011. Partners in pressure ulcer reduction believe that a meaningful reduction requires the hospital and nursing home teams to intensify their commitment to making pressure ulcer reduction a priority.
Project Description
The Pressure Ulcer Reduction Community of Practice (CoP)
The CoP will include both nursing homes and hospitals and is designed to educate providers and encourage the use of evidence-based methodology in pressure ulcer reduction. Each hospital and nursing home participating in the CoP will have access to all Delmarva resources including onsite visits, consultations, intervention strategies and support for data analysis.
